the Belleau Kitchen 12 tastes of Christmas

21 December 2016 by Dominic Franks

Christmas Pudding logo… at this time of year many people are looking for inspiration for either something a little different or perhaps a recipe that gives a subtle twist on a classic.  I also know that I want a few failsafe recipes that will look impressive and taste great.  This is my collection of 12 Christmas recipes that I love.  Some my own and some from one or two of my favourite bloggers… each one hopefully giving you a little something to add to your Christmas repertoire!

slow-cooked bacon

1. slow cooker collar bacon in ginger beer

to kick off here is one of my all-time favourite slow-cooker and christmas recipes.  You literally sit back and let the flavours and aromas permeate through the kitchen and the next day you have a ham like no other.  Ginger Beer is excellent with ham, it has all the sweetness of the more traditional Coca-Cola but of course has the added deep kick of the ginger spice…

chocolate carrot cake

2. chocolate carrot cake

this is a subtle but very festive twist on the classic carrot cake… packed with orange and spices and plenty of chocolate it is a great alternative to the heavier traditional Christmas cake and isn’t anywhere near as rich.  It can also be made into cupcakes too…

brownies

3.  white chocolate peppermint brownies by Saving Room For Dessert

ok…I LOVE Tricia’s blog. If I could live in anyone’s home and eat my way through their kitchen it would be Tricia’s and these cute little brownies just scream of Christmas.  I think candy canes are so ‘traditional American Christmas’ and I love when people make recipes with them, it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside…

clementine marble cake

4. Clementine Marble Layer Cake

this is a simple but very tasty and ultimately impressive looking cake that isn’t particularly a Christmas cake but has the look and flavour to sit well with the Christmas spirit.  Chocolate and Orange is essentially the taste of Christmas for me and this hits that nail on the head with a massive hammer!…

biscuits

5. Christmas butter biscuits by Tin and Thyme

not only do these biscuits fulfil my ‘contemporary Christmas’ thing they are also fun and sound absolutely delicious.  I love the pop of green colour that the matcha powder brings to these festive cookies and the simple shapes are the perfect bold antidote to all the Christmas fussiness…

roast chicken

6. thai basil curry christmas roast

a real twist on the classic Christmas Day lunch… a chicken instead of turkey and a sweet thai curry flavour that will take you beyond the mundane.  I love this dish.

Meringue Christmas Tree

7. Meringue Christmas Tree by Super Golden Bakes

is there anything more festively beautiful than this brilliant tiered meringue Christmas pavlova.  So rich yet so light and it looks so impressive.  I actually want to eat this for my Christmas dinner pudding…

fig and honey mince pie

8. fig and honey mince pies

these are the taste of christmas without being boring.  The rich and sticky figs melt into the honey and the chocolate pastry is to die for.

mulled cider

9. mulled cranberry cider

this is such a wonderful christmas drink and is so delicious I can never really understand why ruled cider is not as popular as mulled wine which in my mind is cloying and overly sweet.

chocolate orange brownies

10. orange and double chocolate brownies by Food To Glow

Kellie’s blog is a wonder of divine delights but these brownies do it all for me… chocolate, orange… did I mention chocolate…

bubble and squeak

11. bubble and squeak by Lavender and Lovage

Boxing Day morning would not be complete without this mix of leftovers and egg and I make it without fail in my own special way, however Karen does it beautifully here

three ways wit stuffing

12. three ways with stuffing

three brilliant stuffing recipes, from a classic sage on onion to a veggie chestnut and mushroom, I have it covered!

eat and of course, enjoy!

Everything looks so scrumptious. I’m getting super excited about Christmas now. But you know which one appeals at this moment in time – it’s Karen’s bubble and squeak. I’d love to demolish a plate of that right now. Thanks so much for including one of my recipes – you know how to bestow a heart warming festive glow 😀

Wish you and the Viking a very relaxing but Merry Christmas.

Lovely choice of recipes. I’ve been meaning to make the bacon in ginger beer ever since you first presented it to us but I’m so hopeless that I’ve yet to get round to it. It sounds like the perfect winter dish.
