random recipes #19 round-up

30 August 2012 by Dominic Franks

… did I scare some of you away..? Did you think it would be all butterflies and bows..? well, yes and no… but you did me proud this month… you little random recipes rascals…

check out the round-up after the jump

an electric storm blows our first entry over from the States with Susan from The Spice Garden and some delicious Roasted Red Bell Pepper on Garlic Toast
Jane from Onions and Paper picked Lebanese Cooking and from it these rather lovely looking Chicken Pieces with Lime and Spices… it also happens to be her first random recipes, recipe entry… but it looks as though she enjoyed herself…
next is Annie from Annie’s Larder with her fancy sweet potato scones taken from the brilliantly titled Potato by Alex Barker and a lovely first recipe from her too!
and here’s Fiona from the brilliant TIFFIN blog with her Ginger-Garlic Chicken taken from the Australian Women’s Weekly book of Chinese Cooking… I think the dish looks stunning but she was worried about how dull the recipe sounded… a great first RR if you ask me!
next up is Phil from As Strong As Soup with a trip back to the 80’s this month and this glorious Honey and Brandy Ice Cream taken from The London Restaurants Recipe Book… Rubiks Cube anyone?
and another light and fluffy moment randomly selected by Mel from Sharky Oven Gloves with a very fey sounding Banana Mousse taken from Cuisine Express… i’ve come over all frothy myself!
next is Chris from Cooking Around The World who has stuck very firmly to the rules for which we applaud him heartily, with this rather yummy Fusilli with Bean Sauce taken from Classic Essential Pasta by Anne Wilson … he just has to get out of bed first to make the food, the lazy swine!
and now ladies and gentlemen look who I found lurking around the oven door… it’s The Brownieville Girl back from whence she came… with a delightful Marinated Mozzarella and Avocado Salad random recipe from HRH Delia of Smith

next is the still sublime Gill from Tales of Pigling Bland and her take on a Paella Valenciana found on a recipe card that happened to flutter to the floor… how poetic… how bloody stunning is this!?!
next up is the delightful Janice from Farmersgirl Kitchen with a beautiful Apple and Raisin Compote taken from The New Vegetarian by Rose Elliot… there’s something so simple yet elegant about a fruit compote that I love… a lucky random pick if you ask me!

Janet from the beautifully photographed and very sophisticated The Taste Space picked this rather unusual African Style Spinach and Zucchini Saute with Pineapple and Pumpkin Seeds from The Tropical Vegan Kitchen by Donna Klien… it’s sometimes the beauty of random recipes that pulls out the weirdo’s isn’t it?
next is lovely Lucy The KitchenMaid who raided her mum’s recipe clippings to find a wonderfully simple DIY Creme Fraiche… it’s a lovely post and tribute to her mum, do go and read it…

Jean from Baking in Franglais has made these very chic little Chocolate and Cherry Puddings from 200 Slow Cooker Recipes that really took me back to my childhood and memories of steamed puddings… divine!

and next is Camilla from Little Macaroon with this simple but hearty Spaghetti in Tomato Sauce from Jamie’s 30 Minute Meals… or money from old rope as Camilla so elegantly puts it!

next up and all the way from the asiatic shores of Indonesia is Michael from Me, My Food and I with the incredibly exotic sounding Bebek Bacem Masak Adaliman… try saying THAT when you’re drunk… a duck dish, taken from a book in his mums cookbook collection, Lauk Bumbu Basem by Aan Roswaty… how interbloodynational are we!!

Lou from Please Do Not Feed The Animals has taken this random moment out of her humungously busy and hectic lifestyle to create these rather lovely Chicken Satay Skewers another recipe this month to come from Jamie’s 30 Minute Meals… although something tells me it took her longer than that!

next up is Ros from The More Than Occasional Baker who has NEVER made pastry before doing so for this stunning Nectarine and Summer Berry Tart taken from The Poppina Book of Baking… can you believe it?… and it’s a damn fine first try too…

next is the adorable Karen from Lavender and Lovage who has a special pile of summer reading from which she pulled an incredibly colourful and summery Peperonata taken from The Classic Mediterranean Cook Book

here’s Jude from A Trifle Rushed who had she left it to the little girl would have been baking a smarties cake or something else sickly sweet… with a bit of nudging from mum she randomly selected this incredible and one can imagine divinely aromatic Necterines Compote taken from Compotes Maison by Cathy York

thought i’d slip mine in here whilst i’m able… after-all these cheese and apple tarts taken from The Apple Source Book were sublime!
next is proud Random Recipes Virgin Charlene from Food Glorious Food with this fragrant Aromatic Chicken Curry taken from the Good Food 101 Healthy Eats, welcome her on board nicely now kids…

and next is the Fabulicious Ren from Fabulicious Food with something a little different in the form of an Ottoman inspired dish of Watermelon and Feta Salad Za’atar Crumble taken from Silvena Rowe’s Orient Express… and no kids, that’s not a piece of seating…

here’s Alice from Italian Inspiration with a stunning walk along the Great Yarmouth coats, athough not quite brave enough to actually swim in the sea she did brave Random Recipes with her take on James Martin’s Moroccan Spiced Cous Cous with Honey and Almonds

Johanna the Green Gourmet Giraffe braved the random recipes this month and very nearly came a cropper with RRE (that’s Random Recipe Etiquet to you and me) but stuck to her guns and produced a delightful looking Roasted Potato Salad with Black Olives and Greens taken from Veggie Burgers – Every Which Way

another RRV here… well Caroline from Caroline Makes took part in the mass photo session last month but proper RR this time and she even managed to pick a cake type thing with these yummy Triple Chocolate Crunch Bars from The Fairtrade Everyday Cookbook by Sophie Grigson

and yet another RRV here, may I proudly introduce Sarah from Sezza Knits who created this rather odd Spicy Pangrattato Risotto taken from Jamie’s Cook with Jamie… a bit of a let down for Sarah but I guess it’s better to start on a low with random recipes… things can only improve!

and next is the glorious Choclette from Chocolate Log Blog and a very simple chocolate icing taken from Cox Cookies and Cake by Eric Lanlard… the fact that it’s covering an INCREDIBLE lemon sherbet tiffin is purely incidental…
Gary from Exploits of a Food Nut gives us two tarts for the price of one (does his OH know?) taken from the brilliant River Cottage Veg… and yes, he may be right, I may be keeping it simple for this month in order to scare the bejesus out of you next month!

lovely lovely Susan from A Little Bit of Heaven on a Plate truly lives up to her blog title with this stunner of a Capri Chocolate Almond Cake taken from the GENIUS Soprano’s Cook Book… you know it’s gonna come to a sticky end…
and next up is the lovely Vanessa from the beautiful blog Cakes and Teacups with these very pretty Orange and Peach Filo Parcels taken from The Secret Ingredient by Sally Bee… an inspiration to Vanessa but I think Vanessa is an inspiration to us all!… go read her blog
here’s Claire from Under The Blue Gum Tree with something a little wonderful, although I may be biased… its a Roast Pork Belly Sandwich with Tomato and Apple Chutney taken from Cafe Food at Home by Evan Faulls
and yet another RRV with Stacy from the brilliantly titled Food Lust People Love and a rather sticky Pecan Golden Syrup Bundt Cake taken from Nigella’s Kitchen
and here’s Amanda from Dancing Veggies with a Tomato Tortilla Soup taken from the Moosewood Restaurant Simple Supper cookbook… I love this cookbook and although ive never had tortilla soup before I’m sure it must be amazing by the look of this piccie!
oooops… mised one here from Cat at Crunchy and Snickety with a really marvellous Potatoes with Prunes and Raisins taken from Floyd on France (of course!) sorry Cat!
and finally i’d like to end with the wonderful Danna with a Haddock Stew with Dill taken fromΒ Your Family Will Love It!Β  Quick and Healthy Weekday Meals for the Hard – to – Please.
– From the Food Editors ofΒ PreventionΒ Magazine Health BooksΒ who doesn’t have a blog but wanted to join in anyway… is this not what blogging and shar
ing is all about… I love it!!
oh and i’m so sorry to Sue from My Recipe Book Blog who was one of the earliest entries in August… I totally lost you somewhere in the depths of my emails… here’s her random recipes entry which is Olivia Newton John’s ChickPea Patties… poor Sue has not only suffered with me neglecting her but she had to suffer these dreadful things too… Sue has an excellent blog, go read it!

and there goes another fabulous round-up… once again you honour and humble me in equal measure… without you I am but a sad lonely blogger… and because I love you so much I have something rather wonderful lined up for September… you’ll just have to wait and see…

Another fab round up, Dom. A few I still have to read. Nice to see so many new ones this month too.

Fantastic round up Dom, and some great first time entries to discover new blogs with. Can't believe I missed it this time – the end of the month always seems to come around too quickly at the moment. πŸ™ Still, always next month …

What a lovely roundup – sorry I wasn't able to participate this month. Frantically baking and icing wedding cakes for tomorrow! I did try – Tuesday I attempted my challenge recipe – lamb garlic and rosemary risotto, but when I unwrapped it the lamb was decidedly iffy, so we had pasta with a jar of tomato sauce – didn't think that was very blog worthy!!!! Looking forward to September though…

I love reading your comments one the round up Dom, you are such a flatterer πŸ˜‰

I particularly enjoyed seeing Fiona from Tiffin blog's entry as I have that Australian Woman's Weekly chinese cook book and whilst it's pretty old school, it's actually quite brilliant. Simple recipes and made only with ingredients that you could get even in the 80s rather than complicated things that you have to search for. Every recipe I've tried from it has been delicious

Goodness fantastic entries this month. I'll be home next week so will have a greater selection of books to choose from (I'm not sure if that's good or not.)
I'm so glad I'd eaten lunch before reading all these inspiring dishes and I can see that there are quite a few books missing from my collection!
Looking forward to September…. I think!

Another great round up as usual! I'm so sorry that I didn't manage to take part this month (I even had the book picked out!) – I fell victim to the sun and made the most of it being Summer here and so of course the month has flown by! Looking forward to next month's challenge though : )

Can't believe I ended up missing this. I picked my recipe properly using a random number generator and fully intended on taking part. Sadly life got in the way I didn't end up having time to do it, hopefully next month will be a bit calmer!
