random recipes round-up #34

29 November 2013 by Dominic Franks

… my goodness what a month, my feet have barely touched the ground… we had a huge pitch yesterday for a really cool brand we’ve been chasing after for years and we also have one of the biggest installations of our lives going into the Covent Garden Piazza tonight so I apologise for the seemingly rushed nature of this (and any entries i’ve missed..) I honestly don’t know where November’s all disappeared to as it rushes like piece of broken bauble down the stinky drain that is this commercial christmas… quite frankly ‘they’ should cancel November and just bring December on instead…

… in the meantime you lot have all come up trumps again with a classic turn at random recipes so let’s charge on with the first entry shall we…

so first off the old block is the lovely Lucy from The KitchenMaid with a simple but stunning Yoghurt Banana Fool taken from 100 Dishes for Two – although I wouldn’t try and emulate her ‘book falling on toe’ method of choosing a random recipe…
see the rest of your marvellous random recipes after the break…

next up is a welcome return to random recipes from Phil from As Strong As Soup with a Black Sticky Gingerbread randomly selected from Leith’s Book of Baking by Pru Leith and Caroline Waldegrave
and here’s darling Karen from Lavender and Lovage with a nicely frugal Roast Chicken and Ham Pie with a Suet Pudding taken randomly from the rather cosy sounding Traditional Farmhouse Fare
and next along we have Craig from The Usual Saucepans and this rather filthy looking Cinnamon and Pear Cake with Amaretto Caramel taken from Delicious Magazine… oh and why not pop over and go help him celebrate his first blogaversary!
up next is Denise over at Magnolia Verandah with some very impressive scones taken from the brilliantly titled Common Sense Cookery Book
here’s Lou from Please Do Not Feed The Animals who always manages to come up trumps, with a wonderful bowl of Smoked Haddock with Lentils randomly chosen from Nigel Slater’s Eat
here’s the rather cookie Choclette from the Chocolate Log Blog with some Chilli Corn Chocolate Muffins taken from The Hungry Student Vegetarian Cookbook by Charlotte Pike
next along the random recipes train track is Christian from Cooking Around the World and his Lemon Roasted Chicken randomly selected from Bill’s Sydney Food by Bill Granger
here’s Janet from The Taste Space with some rather cute Cucumber Avacado Sandwiches with Dill and Mint adapted from Isa Does It.
more cucumbers now, this time from Claire from Under The Blue Gum Tree with this gorgeous jar of Cucumber Pickles taken from the Fabulous Baker Brothers
next we have dear Janice from Farmersgirl Kitchen with a Crunch-Topped Cod randomly selected from  a fab pile of old Bella Cookbook Magazines… oooh, she’s so inventive our Janice…
here’s Stacy from Food Lust People Love with what are quite frankly some very gorgeous looking Buttermilk Roast Chicken Breasts randomly picked from Nigella’s Express (ahem…)
next we have Cheryl from Madhouse Family Reviews with this very pretty Jewelled Cookie Bars taken from Brownies, Bars and Goodies Galore by Jo McAuley
and here’s Ruth from Makey-Cakey with a very unusual dish called Murtaback which are essentially folded fried sandwiches from Malaysia, very brave and randomly picked from The Lonely Planets Worlds Best Street Food
and let’s check out Charlene from No Love Sincerer, taking part in random recipes for two months in a row with her gorgeous Shortbread taken from Rosie’s Pantry Baking
next up is Jane from Onions and Paper with what’s quite possibly my favourite thing ever, Guacamole with Grilled Chicken taken from John Torode’s Chicken
here’s Elizabeth from The Law Students Cookbook with her Chinese Style Pork Chops randomly selected from Wok Cookery by Cecil Dyer
next is Sally Atkins with a lovely and very brave (for a non baker) Olive, Coriander and Onion Bread taken from Paul Hollywoods How to Bake
here’s Alexandra from The Lass in the Apron with these stunning creamy Basmati Rice Puddings with Winter Fruit Parfait randomly selected from Roland Mesnier’s Dessert University
and here’s lovely Elizabeth from Elizabeth’s Kitchen with a Pumpkin Loaf randomly chosen from her own grandmothers hand-written recipes
next is my tea and cake partner Rachel from My Life in Knitwear with the oddly names Newmarket Pudding randomly chosen from A Pudding Book by Helen Saberi
oops, missed out lovely Fiona from TIFFIN with her Sweet Scented Vermicelli taken from Nigella’s Feast (indeed…)
a late addition here from Gary over at Exploits of a Food Nut  with his Chilli Poached pairs taken from Ramsay’s Ultimate Home Cooking
and finally, rounding up a wonderful month of treats is Roz from The More Than Occasional Baker with these Fork Biscuits taken from Mary Berry’s Ultimate Cake Book
…and that, as they say, is that… thank you so much for continuing to make random recipes the fun challenge that it is… I have something silly and easy for December, so watch this space…
eat and of course, enjoy!

Cookie? I have no idea what you mean. Those cucumber sandwiches are insane. Great fun as always. Thank you and here's hoping for a quieter December.

What a super round up this month, Dom! I'm going to sit down this evening and look through all the sites properly, and now I'm off to look at the December challenge…

A great round-up as always. It's good I am reading this at a safe time. Maybe I have the chance to dream about some of the nice food.
