… firstly may I wish you, from Belleau Kitchen, a very Happy and Healthy New Year… I hope all your dreams come true in Two Thousand and Twelve… Olympic year for lucky Londoners, Golden Jubilee Year for the rest of us British lot and something for everyone to celebrate… the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster… what a year it will be…
… so let us kick it off in wonderful style with a nice and easy Random Recipe challenge… New Year… New Book is all about cooking something random from your newest cookbook… I realise we’ve done something similar before but the concept is a moveable feast for everyone and seeing that I could, with impunity, guess that we all received at least one new cookbook for Christmas, it shouldn’t be too hard to want to join in…
… my new book is Wild Garlic, Gooseberries and Me by Dennis Cotter… a book written in 2007 but unknown to me until now but it’s a fascinating vegetarian cook book about eating off the land… full of lovely tales and delicious recipes… i’ve not really had time to study it properly but I am very excited about giving it a good read… and my random recipe…Tagliolini with shredded Brussels Sprouts, Sage and Pine Nuts… oh yes, just as thought it was safe to steer clear of the dreaded Brussel it rears its ugly head once more… bloody random recipes… who’s stupid idea was this…?
rules are pretty simple…
1. select your newest book
2. shut your eyes and randomly open the book
3. cook the recipe found on the opened page
4. write it up in a blog post, including a link back to my blog and the random recipes logo
5. email me a link to your entry to dom@thepersuaders.co.uk
6. do NOT cheat… you’re only cheating yourself
7. you have until the 30th Jan to enter the challenge
eat and of course, enjoy!
Fantastic idea. I'm going to have to get Hubby to pick my random new book as I fear I may be slightly biased otherwise ;0)
Happy New Year Dom! All the best for 2012.
Dom; I don't think I'll be entering this for two reasons – 1) I'm a fussy eater. 2)My wife is diabetic, so has to be very careful with what she eats. However, I shall certainly be having a good browse through all our new books. Have you got any of Luke Nguyen's books about Vietnam? (such as “Indochine”). Great recipes, great photography, great narrative.
I got so many great cookbooks this year, I am excited. I'll definitely have to get the boy to choose tho! x
Happy New Year Sirs!
Happy New Year Dom! I got a sneaky little box set of mini cookbooks by Chef Wan, the undisputed KING of s.e. asian tv chefs… I can't wait to pick something at random… YAY!!!
Happy new year! So excited about this one as have 3 gorgeous new books waiting to be used! Sorry I didnt enter December's challenge. The only book that is going to the charity shop is German Baking Today and we know what happened last time I made something from it!
Happy New Year to you too! I hope all your dreams and wishes (like world domination) come true!
Hmm, this could be a toughie, you see I rec'd a “new” 100 year old cook book from my husbands's cousin and I rec'd a 2011 cookbook @ Christmas . . . what to do, what to do!!!
Yey – I'm cooking from River Cottage Veg Everyday, and my random recipe for once is dairy free to begin with, so no crazy substituting will be required! Happy New Year Rx
Happy New Year Dom! You may have done this before but it's a good one as we've all got new books we can't wait to get stuck into. Mine is 'Tea with Bea'. Looking forward to it.
Happy New Year! That book looks a really interesting read. Here's to 2012! xx
Fantastic idea Dom and I got three new cookbooks so I have plenty to randomly choose!
Happy New Year to you too, and The Viking!
Karen
XXXXXXX
Happy new year Dome!!!! Hope is a great one for you!!! xxx
I am actually going to do this one, I have some time off work and 4 new cookbooks so there is no excuse not to! Happy new year Dom.x
Oh Dom, you and Karen are trying to kill me – nooooo! She wants me to make fat filled pastries and you want me to cook from the Cadbury book of Chocolately chocolateness?
I'll see what I can do 😉
You've inspired me, I'm going to accept the challenge! I got 3 new cookbooks and I haven't cracked one of them open yet so it will be fun. Happy 2012!
Happy New Year! 2012 is the year I'm going to join in random recipes 🙂 I've got a few new cookbooks to choose from so this will be a brilliant first RR challenge for me.
I hope that 2012 is filled with everything you hope for Dom!
I would love to give this a go, so as a newbie I will be posting a Random Recipe. GG
Way-hay!! I've four new books to choose from – happy days!!
Sounds great Dom! My new cookbook hopefully will arrive from amazon soon and I'll get cooking/baking! 🙂
Happy New Year to you too!
Brilliant idea – especially as my WONDERFUL sister just sent me Short & Sweet for Christmas. How do I love Dan Lepard? Let me count the ways…
Fab excuse to get stuck into my new books! Im going to grab them now! My first time participating in this challenge and its a good one!
Happy New Year to you too Dom! I'll be graduating this year and then celebrating the Olympics – it's gonna be a new stage of my life – quite scary! I got a new cookbook for Christmas, I hope to I have time before I go back to Uni to try out your challenge 🙂
Happy New Year Dom and all the Random Recipe-ers.
Letting us cook from our new pressies is perfect! Cheers, Dom.
Ok, I'm signing up to the Random Recipe challenge as well. Have 3 new cookbooks so will get OH to choose one and then I'll do the random thing. Gulp! Happy New Year to one and all.
Excellent choice, raring to give something a try in either of my two cookbooks – at least I think I am 😉
Thanks for reminding me about the Dennis Cotter book, it was lost amongst my herbals. I've rescued it now and it's in a more noticeable place. I've still got loads of sprout to use up and this recipe sounds like a good way to use them.
Wishing you a Very Happy AND successful 2012. World Domination Year per chance?
nice and simple…good way to ease myself back in! xx
Well Santa didn't bring me any proper recipe books, but he did bring me a cake decorating book, so skilled are the designs (handmade floral cascading bouquets and the like) if I went to sugarcraft classes for the next 20 years I'd never master them (or have any eyesight left).
So might have to go with the last one bought as a gift instead…and that'll be a challenge!
Prayers may be needed.
Great idea. What else is there to do on dismal January evenings, other than to cook ?!
We had several super cookbooks for Christmas, plus some in the house borrowed from the library and a couple of bargains from the supermarket, so the question is, which book to choose…….
Great idea Dom!
i never get it together to do these things, but with several new books under my belt, this could be the month!
