Kosher Fried Cauliflower Bites

30 August 2022 by Dominic Franks

Cauliflower Bites

These Kosher Fried Cauliflower Bites are a sort of riff on the Korean Fried Chicken bites from Soho House and they are on another level of epic! They’re kosher because I’ve used matzomeal instead of breadcrumbs.  Matzomeal is essentially ground Matzo crackers, which are the big flame-baked crackers that we eat during the Jewish festival of Passover.  So they’re already super-crunchy and tasty.  If you can’t get hold of matzomeal then try Panko breadcrumbs or simply use regular breadcrumbs.

Ive made these in my air fryer but they would work just as well in the oven.

Cauliflower Bites

  • two medium cauliflowers – cut into florets
  • 100g matzomeal  – you can use breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons Chinese Five Spice
  • a pinch of salt
  • 2 large free-range egg
  • olive oil for the pan / air fryer

for the honey soy dipping sauce

  • soy
  • honey
  • fresh ginger – grated

In a large bowl mix the matzomeal, Chines 5 Spice and salt.  In a small bowl, lightly beat the eggs.

Preheat the air fryer to 200°C. (Or if using an oven – preheat to 200C fan)
Dip each cauliflower floret into the egg first, then into the maztomeal mixture ensuring each floret is well coated, then set aside on a plate or tray.
Drizzle the cauliflower with olive oil (an oil sprayer would be ideal here) and place into the air fryer in a single layer with a little space between each floret. Don’t overcrowd the basket. Work in batches if necessary. Air fry for 10 – 15 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp. The exact timing will depend on your air fryer. Repeat with any remaining cauliflower. If using a regular oven place on a baking tray in one layer.  Roast for 20 – 25 mins until golden.
I’m using my Haden Multi Pro Air Fryer (which is currently on sale) and if you guys are still in two minds about purchasing one then check this one out and use code: DOM-20 at the checkout for an extra 20% discount!
To make the sauce simply place the ingredients into a jam jar with a lid and shake until well combined.
