random recipes meets alphabakes – roundup

29 April 2014 by Dominic Franks

… it seems as though you all had a little fun with this months random recipes meets alphabakes.  It has been so lovely after my month off to come back to so many enthusiastic entries for which i’d like to thank you all and of course my generous co-hosts for this challenge, Caroline and Ros… it also reminded me how much I love this challenge and just how many cook books and authors there are out there… it’s an undiscovered country my friends and it’s great that we can go exploring together.  So without further ado I give you the letter A…

first off the mark we have lovely Karen from Lavender and Lovage with this rather tasty looking Apple and Blackberry Pie made by her mother (i’m sure that’s some form of slave labour…) and taken from the interestingly titled Radiation Cookery Book

see the rest of your amazing entries after the jump…

next is Anne from Anne’s Kitchen with her Aubergine Puree or Baba Ganoush as it’s more commonly known, randomly selected from Just Like Mother Used to Make by Tom Norrington Davies

and here’s Alison from Dragons and Fairy Dust with these rather naughty Ana’s Cheese Empanadas randomly selected from Leon Baking and Puddings
here’s the amazing Charlene from Food Glorious Food with a Cinnamon and Almond Cake from Nigellisima by Nigella Lawson
next up is Alexandra, The Lass in the Apron with a rather gorgeous and very daring Apricot Souffle Cake randomly chosen from Roland Mensier’s Basic to Beautiful Cakes
here’s a brilliant excuse for a salad made for us by Craig from The Usual Saucepans… it’s an Avocado and Bacon Salad, taken from Nigel Slater’s The Kitchen Diaries
next up is Elizabeth from The Law Student’s Cook Book with some sublime Caramel Apple Cupcakes randomly drafted from A Baker’s Field Guide to Cupcakes by Dede Wilson
now here’s my lovely co-host Caroline from Caroline Makes with these extra-special Amaretto Cheesecakes, randomly selected from the A list in Marian Keyes’ Saved By Cake
and now here’s my entry… a really rather gorg
eous Avocado and Roast Beetroot salad randomly selected from How to Cook Everything Vegetarian by Mark Bittman
and next along is Fiona from Let Them Eat Cake with a gloriously green Arugula and Walnut Pesto randomly chosen from the pages of an American magazine
and here’s lovely Cheryl from Madhouse Family Reviews with this Granny’s Apple Shortcake taken from Ella’s Big Baking Book
and next is dear Ruth from Makey Cakey with these pretty Apple and Custart Muffins randomly whipped from the pages of Muffins by the Australian Women’s Weekly
next up is Janet from The Taste Space with some rather unusual pots of Chai Spiced Rice Puddings taken from The Blender Girl Cookbook
here’s the gorgeous Choclette from the incomparable Chocolate Log Blog with her own spin on a Rhubarb and Almond Cream Pasty Pie, inspired by a recipe randomly selected from Pasties by Lindsey Bareham
next we have lovely Denise from Magnolia Verandah with some well-times ANZAC Biscuits
and next up is Kate from The Gluten Free Alchemist with a stunning Alsace Apple Pie randomly chosen by hubby from The Hairy Bikers Ride Again by Dave Myers and Si King
here’s Jill from Lapin d’Or and More with a wonderfully fragrant Aloo Dum taken from Atul Kochhar’s  Simple Indian
and next up is the quite utterly bonkers Christian from Cooking Around the World with this fabulously random Avocado Salad with Egg and Salmon
here we have more Culinary Adventures with Camilla and her Asparagus with Lavender Aiolo randomly selected from the A section in The Artful Vegan
and next up is the delightful Amanda from Dancing Veggies and this lovely and way too healthy Warm Bulgar Wheat Salad with Arugula (or Rocket to you and me) taken from Madhur Jaffrey’s World Vegetarian
and now here’s the cheeky Corina from Searching For Spice with what could have been a disaster but actually turned out just right – a perfect American Style Chocolate Cheesecake found in Mary Berry’s Baking Bible
next along the random recipes roller-coaster is the wonderful Jane from Onions and Paper with a stunning looking Aga Khan’s Lamb taken from Big Table Busy Kitchen by Allegra McEvedy
god i’m hungry… and of course last but by no means least, ending nearly where we started, here’s my other co-host Ros from The More Than occasional Baker with a glorious Apple and Blackberry Crumble randomly selected from British Baking by Peyton and Byrne
… and so there you have it… once again, thank you so much for being such wonderful and generous random recipes participants, I hope i’ve warmed you up nicely for next month when I probably wont be quite so nice… look out for the next challenge of May 1st!
eat and of course, enjoy!

Oi, I thought I still had it until tomorrow. sigh, with the ceiling repairs and builders' mess in the house, I completely lost track of the closing date, and was planning to do my recipe today. I think I will still bake what I planned as I have all the ingredients. That's a super round-up, so many wonderful entries, but confess the apricot souffle has totally won me over.

What a fabulous round up! I'm so gutted I didn't have time to make my entry because this was clearly a really run Random Recipes and AlphaBakes month. Fingers crossed for next time though.

Yey – I made it in 🙂 Thanks for another great challenge – and I shall challenge myself to get it done early on this time. Although due to holidays, there is a fairly high chance that whatever it is will have to be made either on a camping stove, or on a boat on the Norfolk broads! Which might make it even more random…

Argh, so annoyed I missed this one – April seems to have been a shorter than usual month. But there are some great things here – that Aga Khan lamb looks gorgeous! Will aim to try harder for May…
