The Willow Manor Ball

20 October 2013 by Dominic Franks

… roll up, roll up, it’s time for the Willow Manor Ball… the ultimate cyber-event of the year and yours truly is catering the event… and this year i’ve decided to search through some of my favourite blogs and choose the type of food i’d want to have at the best party of the year…

so my staff are ready, the chefs are prepped in their kitchen and the guests arrive…

they will be greeted by my line-up of original supermodel waiting team who welcome them with a selection of drinks including this incredible Rose and Cardamom Cocktail from The View From the Great Island and this Watermelon Champagne Cocktail from A Fabulous Fete …

perfect canapes will be served like these glorious Asparagus and Chicken Skin Yakitori from Mummy, I can cook! and these Mushroom Polenta Squares from Le Delicieux…

then the ultimate buffet will be laid out with a global selection of food… as if from a dream, anything you want to eat, all calorie free, will be at your fingertips… and for me i’d start with a light fish course…  something like these Smoked Haddock Spread on Sourdough Toast from Lavender and Lovage with some baked salmon from Elizabeth’s Kitchen Diary…
then perhaps something a little meaty with these Sticky Ribs from James Ramsden and of course some Pork Belly from Me My Food and I
and of course i’d have to throw in some of mine and Tess‘ favourite Sausage and Radish stew!
…we can’t forget the vegetarians – and we haven’t with my Spinach Roulade and some naughty Kale and Chedar Bubble and Squeak from Tinned Tomatoes…
and then basically the bit that everyone loves – the sweet trolley comes round and it’s loaded with more goodies than you can imagine such as this extraordinary Strawberry Moon Pie from The Spice Garden and these very cute Rose Cupcakes from Chocolate Log Blog …
and to round it all off… well it’s my Summer Celebration Cake of course!
eat and of course, enjoy the party!

Gosh, I just arrived at the Ball and want to complete Chef on such a tasty fare. We in Holland begin with our sweets first, and I thought it sweet of you to have Mr Carson (Lady Tess's butler flown in for the occasion) hand me one of your yummy watermelon cocktails to 'wet my whistle', as you say (or did say when I last left the States). The salmon dish just melts in my mouth. Is that Irish salmon? Simply lovely. Being mostly vegetarian, I couldn't help but sample the delightful Spinach Roulade and your naughty bubble and squeak. Kiss and tell, it's 'allemaal lekker', as we say in Dutch. Simply scrummy! Well done, Chef Dominic – kisses of appreciation

Dom! You have totally outdone yourself! Sorry (mouth full) I keep gobbling up all those fabulous polenta things. I hope you don't mind Nigella and Vincent keeping you company…

So very pleased to have been in on the act and helping to create such a fabulous party. One question. Do the chefs get to sample one of those delightful looking cocktails?

Laura Calder insisted that she tag along while I visited here. She has brought along dozens of her famous mushrooms, fifty coq au vin and a plethora of french pastries that will delight every pallete.

Such an exquisite buffet! A feast for the eyes, to be sure. I favor the pork bellies, and your sausage and radish stew is divine!

I'll tell you what I'm going to do… load up on rose and cardamom drinks, then take that summer cake and Benedict Cumberbatch off into the hedges. I mean, they're equally delicious, so why not sample them both together?

Dahling! The spread was fantastic! johnny and I chuckled when we overheard all the accolades … “Imagine, I whispered, we know the chef!” I must admit though, that I had to take tidbits of everything, as my gown was trussed up tight … each bite, however, was exquisite! Kiss, kiss!
