random recipes round-up #29

29 June 2013 by Dominic Franks

…yet again another month has sneezed violently across the year with nothing as polite as a bless-you as it wipes itself on the sleeve of our lives…  and as I suspected you’ve all been amazing when it comes to helping me on the road to recovery with some amazing healthy and happy recipes and it’s a really mixed bag, many of which look far too good  to be anywhere near healthy but i’m not sure I care… I also love the fact that there were two random recipes disasters this month… they seem to be getting rarer, so it’s nice to have two in one month!

… so let’s start at the very beginning of the month with my own recipe for chocolate brownies with prunes and almonds randomly selected from the Delia Smith’s Vegetarian Collection…

catch the rest of your amazing entries after the jump…

first into the random recipes fire is random recipes virgin Victoria from A Kick at the Pantry Door with what she considers to be the best broccoli dish ever and I think I may have to concur… it’s a Parmesan Roasted Broccoli from Ina Garten
next up is the gorgeous Karen from Lavender and Lovage with this stunner of a Bacon, Wine and Risotto on a Diet taken from a vintage weight-watchers book called Pure Points… pure genius if you ask me…
here’s continental Jean from Baking in Franglais with a guilt-free, gluten-free, Black Forest Cake randomly selected from Gorgeous Cakes by Annie Bell… and quite frankly if this is guilt-free i’m a monkey… i’ll go get my bananas…
next along we have Elizabeth from Law Students Cook Book with the brilliantly titled Better For You Breakfast Sandwich taken from Cook Yourself Thin
and here’s another bowl of broccoli, this time from Janet from The Taste Space with Kasha, something i’ve never cooked with before but it sure looks good.. the recipe is taken from Radiance 4 Life
next up is Caroline from Caroline Makes with these Slimming World Sweet Potato Cakes taken from Slimming Worlds Extra Easy Entertaining
and on to another random recipes virgin with Camilla from Fab Food 4 All and a recipe using my favourite chicken thighs with this Martha Stewart inspired Chicken Curry… very happy!
next is Choclette from the Chocolate Log Blog with a recipe that most definitely straddles both the happy and healthy camps… may I present this stunning Caramelised Pear, Honey and Carob Cake randomly selected from Love, Bake, Nourish by Amber Rose
oh and here’s our first disaster of the month… it’s Elizabeth from Elizabeth’s Kitchen with a funny story about being lassoed and some rather dark looking Skoki Health Bread taken from A Taste of the Canadian Rockies Cookbook by Myriam Leighton and Chip Olver
next up is the welcome return of an old random recipes stalwart with Gary from Exploits of a Food Nut with this glorious Chocolate and Almond Cake randomly selected from Olive Magazine
some dishes just make you feel happy by looking at them and this is definitely the case with Claire from Under the Blue Gum Tree‘s very pretty looking Fennel, Cherry Tomato and Gorgonzola Gratin randomly selected from Ottolenghi The Cookbook.
next along the old random recipe band wagon is Corina from Searching for Spice with a recipe for Focaccia Pie taken from Sunny Days and Easy Living by Lindy Wildsmith that I think makes me so happy I already feel better!
and here’s delightful Jill from Lapin d’Or and More with a very healthy and beautiful Minted Bean Salad randomly selected from the wonderful Dennis Cotter’s Vegetarian Recipes from the Heart
next up is Lola and Finn’s Mum with a very yummy looking One Pot Chinese Chicken dish taken from the rather severely sounding Fat Girl Slim by Ruth Watson
and here’s an unusual combination of healthy ingredients in one glorious cake from Denise at Magnolia Verandah with this Pumpkin, Pineapple and Prune Cake randomly selected from the Australian Women’s Weekly.
and here’s the brilliant Ruth from Makey-Cakey with a definitely happy-inducing Squidy Spiced Date and Fig Cake randomly selected from The Intolerant Gourmet by Pippa Hendrick
and next along is this delightfully bright green cream of spinach soup, randomly selected from Food From Your Garden by the Readers Digest so beautifully presented and chosen for us by Lou from Please Do Not Feed The Animals
and here’s Sally the Recipe Junkie with one of my favourite cakes a Banana Cinnamon Loaf (with a little secret Courgette) randomly selected from Red Velvet and Chocolate Heartache by Harry Eastwood
and here’s Gill from Tales of Pigling Bland and our second random recipes disaster with these rice, spelt and banana pikelets… sort of… taken from Wholefood – Heal, Nourish, Delight
and next along is the adventurous Fiona from TIFFIN with a gorgeous bowl of very healthy Oriental Vitality Soup randomly selected from Cooking for One and Two by Margaret Fulton
and now here’s lovely Craig from The Usual Saucepans with what must be a very happy plate of Warmed Cherries on Goats Cheese randomly selected New Bistro
and another welcome return to Random Recipes by Mel from Sharky Oven Gloves with a rather wintery Parsnip and Ginger Soup randomly selected from River Cottage Veg Everyday
and last but by no means least is Amanda from Dancing Veggies with a very hearty, happy and most definitely healthy Songs Know or Curried Chickpeas and Kale taken from 1000 Vegetarian Recipes
… and that’s it my good randomly selecting internet friends… a lovely month and plenty for anyone with any kind of ailment to choose something delightful from… thank you all for entering and look out for next month where I think it’s time once again to go back to basics…
eat and of course, enjoy!

Great round up of healthy recipes. June was such a busy month for me that I abandoned challenges after the first week! Will be hopping back on for July though, see you there.

Well I've got to say that some of those recipes are pushing the boundaries of healthy (those delicious crispy croutons in the Spinach Soup look heart attack inducing). Nonetheless – always a good read and plenty of amusing stories to go with it. Rock on #30!

ps: Was concerned about the 'Squidy' Fig Cake but a visit to Makey-Cakey informed me it's 'SquidGy'

So sorry I wasn't able to take part this month but I love to read your round ups. Loads of deliciousness always. I've bookmarked several to make. Which gives me a random recipe idea. I know it's not using our cookbooks, but maybe one month we could choose a random recipe from each other's blogs. I'll leave the details of how that would work to you, Dom, if you like the idea.
